I just finished reading a book by Mike Robbins, Focus on the Good Stuff: The Power of Appreciation. I found this book in an article in Ladies Home Journal written by Courtney De Wet.

'Are you constantly telling, your friends what an oaf your husband in or how poorly paid your are at work - yet seldom sharing good news? Mike Robbins, author of Focus on the Good Stuff: The Power of Appreciation , says such negativity has become pervasive in our culture, and that we are doing ourselves damage, feeling more flawed and less satisfied as a result. But, he claims, there is a solution: Go on a complaint fast.

To start, Robbins recommends making a commitment not to complain about anything to anybody for a specific amount of time - say a day or tow. He also suggests going on the fast with a family member or friend for accountability and support. The idea is not to achieve perfection, but to become aware of how often you complain. In time, you'll train yourself to focus on your life's more positive aspects, which has been proven to create a deeper sense of gratitude and overall happiness.'

I think we get caught up in the day to day minutia, sometimes it seems that we are surrounded by people who are telling you how bad it is or how bad you are, and after awhile you start feeling/thinking the same way. I have been finding myself taking very deep breaths lately and trying to focus on 'your life's more positive aspects'.

What are you doing to keep focus, when surrounded by negativity?

Daily Blog Roll

Posie Gets Cozy - Alicia Paulson
This is the one and only blog that I visit on a daily basis - bordering on stalker. I have had the pleasure of meeting Alicia in person when she had a store front here in Portland. Some day I hope to have lunch with her!

{A} - Ali Edwards
Inspiration to create - that is what Ali's blog gives to me every time I visit. Love her attitude - love that she can 'hang' with anyone. Respect her for the dedication that she gives her family, lots of balance in her life.

Bits&Pieces - Cathy Zielske
My go to place for humor - I get it! Gotta love hearing it like it is - taking it all in with the good, swearing, and not being PC. There is no sugar coating here.

Life in Color - Amber Garrison
Amber is the type of friend that everyone needs - honest, FUN, hysterically funny, REAL and if you don't get it at least visit the blog for grandpa stories!

The Art of the Moment - Allison Tyler Jones
UBER (not sure if that is a word) talented photogrpaher and whom I call one of my best friends. You know the type that you don't have to talk all time but when you do it just clicks. I trust her with anything - she is for REAL. Most likely one of the reasons she can capture so much feeling in her photos.

I'm just a girl - Margie Romney Aslett
Just had the chance to really spend some time with Margie back in Feb 2008. Yes, she is just as cool as you think she is - even cooler.

The Pioneer Woman
Don't know her but her 'how we met' story will have anyone captivated! Along with life on a REAL ranch, doesn't get better than that.

A Passion for Scrapbooking, Decorating & Shopping - Jeanette Stieringer
This gal could be my long lost sister - not only in looks but in style. I am sure that we have some of the same clothes in our closet! She has also become a very close friend -

Crafty Storage - Paula Pascual

Pretty Paper, True Stories - Shimille

A View of Lisa's World - Lisa Damrosch

Happy Birthday Aleta!

We celebrated my dear friend Aleta's birthday on Saturday with great people, good food and good stories! Nathan was BBQ extraordinarie and Jenny the host with the most. Birthday girl  is in the picture below on the far right. Jenny (far left) is telling some story... Jean thinking that this is CRAZY woman...

Jenny again telling some story....

And my attempt at a s'more pizza - which was DELICIOUS!!! Get a pizza pan - layout the graham crackers, lay out the Hershey's chocolate and top with jet puff marshmallows. Put in the oven (sorry can't remember the temperature) and watch, VERY important to watch this thing. wait for the marshmallows to get puffy and the chocolate to get a little melted - then broil to brown the marshmallows. Take out immediately or you will have a FIRE! Enjoy and be messy -

Elinor Dashwood

You are Elinor Dashwood of Sense & Sensibility!
You are practical, circumspect, and discreet. Though you are tremendously sensible and allow your head to rule, you have a deep, emotional side that few people often see.

So the little free time that I have had between working and getting my office back in shape I have been watching chick flicks with a Jane Austen theme. It wasn't on purpose but that's how it happened! Starting with the Jane Austen Book Club. VERY chick flick, Grigg Harris (played by Hugh Dancy) was my favorite character. When he shows up with the big book of all the Jane Austen's novels that had me tickled. Made me think of when Kirk and I were dating and he wanted to go to a Creative Memories party with me...yes, he came with pictures and was ready to crop ladies!

The next movie was Becoming Jane - loved the story, even though most are saying that it is not true. Not one of my favorite characters for Anne Hathaway. Not sure who it could have been but she has done better.

Both movies has inspired me to pick up and re-read some  Jane Austen novels, first up is Sense & Sensibility. Fitting since the quiz I took above said I was most like Elinor Dashwood...

The sun is finally out here in the Pacific NW - hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

The Sinking Barge

Hey everyone - getting lots done this weekend and cleaning some more stuff out! I am selling my Crumpler backpack/camera bag that I bought in Australia last year. I have two other Crumpler bags and this just does not fit my needs anymore. But it was a great vacationing bag and even holds a small laptop (my 13" mac powerbook fit perfectly)

Check it out on eBay here
