Fun Friday Finds | Anthropologie

I cannot begin to tell you how much I LOVE this store? Exactly for the same reasons I LOVE N&M  - when you walk into Anthropologie you can just feel yourself absorbing all the creative juices. There is so much to look at and most of the things that I would like to have are not for sale. Have you seen the big letters made of cardboard??!!!

I was there last Sunday with girlfriends, wandering around looking for a black casual blazer and found myself in the bedding section. I was lusting over this

and this one.

They had some sale bins and I was looking through and found this gem that is now on my bed...

for $69! Yes, a king size duvet for $69. I can say that I scored - this was a $300 duvet. Go in, you never know what treasures you might find!

I did find a black blazer and my prediction is I will be wearing this A LOT. It's made out of a jersey material and it will be good for those last minute appointments that I need to look somewhat put together.

They also carry a great selection of Leifsdotter. One of my favorite clothing lines! It is on the expensive side, but I have sweaters from 5 years ago that are timeless. But check out the color combinations...

I love the color of this sweater and the style but for my body type I can't pull this off. It would be great for someone that has narrow shoulders (I am VERY broad shouldered) and small chest area. That built in scarf detail rests right on the chest and I don't need to accentuate that area! But the cut of it and the line of the buttons draws your eye vertically - very slimming for the right person!

I am on the hunt for a short black skirt similar to this one. I would get this if the price was just a little less. Since I am 5'2" this skirt is perfect as long as it comes to the knee or above. The a-line cut makes if flare out at the right place where I am trying to create bulk and balance out my broad shoulders. From my hips down I am tiny so I can afford to add bulk in this area.

And lastly who can resist these!

Happy Friday - enjoy life! Be sure to check back tomorrow for the Halloween post -

The day after...

Congrats! We all made it right?? Well just for grins here is a wonderful recipe I tried out a couple of weeks ago - right before the cleanse. It's from a dear cyber friend Shanon! The cookies are called Pumpkin Chocolate Chip...little bit of fall, little bit of chocolate and good cakey delight.

My photos are way off - so please go to her blog and enjoy the richer yummier version!
Pumpkin Chocolate Chip cookies
  • 1/2 cup of butter (brought to room temp)
  • 1 1/2 cups of sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup of canned pumpkin
  • 1 tsp of vanilla
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp pumpkin spice (I used the Pampered Chef mixture and a little more!)
  • 2 1/2 cups of flour
  • 1 cup of semi sweet chocolate chips (I added more!)
Pre-heat the oven to 350 degrees. Cream the butter and sugar together in a large bowl. Add the egg, pumpkin and vanilla and mix well. In a small bowl mis the baking powder, baking soda, salt, pumpkin pie spice and flour together. Gradually add the flour to the pumpkin mixture. Stir in the chocolate chips. Using a teaspon drop[ the mixture onto a cookie sheet and back for 17 minutes. Makes 36 cookies.

The dough is extra thick for these cookies and they do not spread out when cooked. Shanon lined her cookie sheet with parchment paper which would work great. I used this amazing perforated cooking sheet and silpat by Demarle. I went to a friends' party and have loved this sheet and mat every since.

Cleanse/Detox Day TEN!

So who is going to celebrate tomorrow?!! Check back because there will be a post for some yummy pumpkin cookies from my friend Shanon...Well I feel ready for the holidays, even though I have no decorations up for Halloween yet. But at least I am super charged on trying to stay healthy over the next three months!

If you have any questions about the cleanse/detox we just did please let me know. I will also be posting next week kind of a "Step Two - what to do after the cleanse". It will be based on the products I use. I have also been testing out a home solution to getting your exercise in. I know in this economy not everyone can afford the gym or a personal trainer. There is a little investment but I have been pleased with the results and of course the convenience of P90X!

Bathroom clean up

When the weather gets like this around here it's time to start nesting. This was taken out my bedroom window - dreary.

I started some of nesting projects last weekend - one of them included cleaning out my drawers in the bathroom and hanging some much needed organizational pieces that have been sitting in my closet for about six months.

My jewelry has been been a tangled mess and like my crafting if it's out sight - it's out of mind. I needed to figure out a way to display my jewelry. My first solution is for my more dainty pieces and bracelets

These are shadow boxes from Micheal's cover with some fun fabric on the inside. I used quilting pins to hang the jewelry on. I have had these for awhile now - in fact my house cleaner accidentally broke the bottom one and the glass shattered out. I like this much better because now I don't have to open it!

The next piece is an old drying rack that I found at and estate sale for $1

I cleaned it up and bought some 'S' hooks at the local hardware store and hung my chunkier pieces and earrings on this one. I don't have very many earrings because I am pearl kind of girl.

This next piece is by one of my favorite artist, Lisa Kaus and I actually showed you another piece earlier in my downstairs bathroom here.

My Lisa piece holds some of my handmade jewelry either by me or other artists.

After I completed this project there was so much more room in my drawers and my counter - you could see it again! As you can see I have the dreaded one sink bathroom. I can only dream of having separate sink areas...

I also cleaned up my ring and watch area...

This is an glass serving tray that I found at GoodWill several years ago. I picked up two, another one sits in the guest bathroom. The porcelain cup hold my fun cheapo rings and pendants. The cast iron hand holds my handmade or chunky rings and the Dachshund holds my wedding ring and engagement ring.

Some decor in our bathroom are pictures of us - by Allison Tyler Jones. Towels and bars are from PB.

The wall paint in this bathroom is by Benjamin Moore called Copley Gray HC-104.

What are you nesting projects?

Sorry I was MIA over the weekend. I have been spending long days on the computer and my tennis elbow has come back. So I took a much needed break to give it a rest. Saturday and Sunday were just like Friday except I had brunch on Sunday. This was tough - this is our girls brunch and I am used to having the wonderful Peach Bellini's at the Heathman. I persevered!

Day eight! Two more days ladies - not sure what I am going to do, maybe have a glass of wine on day 11??!! I am actually feeling pretty good, energy is back.

Cleanse/Detox Day Five

It's Friday and day five of our cleanse/detox! Celebrate that we have made it this far. This weekend is going to take some planning for me since I have places and events to attend that involve food. The keyword for today is PLANNING...

On tap for today:

Morning
  • Spark drink
  • Catalyst supplements
  • Probiotic Restore supplements (advocare cleanse)
  • Meal Replacement Shake
Lunch
  • Plain Miso Soup (it's cold and wet here today)
  • Apple
  • Kashi bar - almond
Mid-afternoon
  • Muscle Gain Shake
  • Fiber bar
Dinner
  • Leftover chicken breast
  • Salad
  • Herbal Cleanse supplements right before bed
This weekend I am stocking up on fruits and veggies and will eat these before I leave the house. The only thing that I might be tempted with is the Peach Bellini at the Heathman at brunch...oh and maybe the eggs benedict...ugh - this might be trouble!

Fun Friday Finds | Nieman & Marcus

Okay before you get all worked up about Neiman & Marcus, let me first say that it is one of my favorite stores. WHY?? It's not because of the expensive clothes, or the reputation - it's because they are constantly pushing the edge in retail design. Next time you have the chance to go into NM go! Be inspired by their displays, colors... there isn't a sign anywhere that says that you have to buy something or that you need to make $$$,$$$ to even step over the threshold. GO in, but promise me you won't look at price tags and remark about how expensive something is (we will save that for another post) you are not there to shop - just observe.

One of my favorite times of year for NM is Christmas. They come out with what is called the infamous "The Christmas Book" I get giddy with excitement when this baby comes in the mail! First look at the paper crafting design on the front cover?! And in the Fantasy Gift video it all comes to life.

As I watched the video here was one exclusive item, that someone (not sure who in this economy right now) could buy that stood out. Let me also say kudos to the NM team this year - it is A LOT of work putting together exclusive deals.

Algonquin Round Table Experience...being the host of Malcom Gladwell, Nora Ephron, John Lithgow, and many more - what an evening to remember! Plus the $200,000 price tag is donated to First Book. What a great idea - couldn't you do something similar with a group of friends? Or this idea might give you the reason to host your own round table experience with professionals in your home town, that you have always wanted to meet. Put the invite out there, you never know what might happen!

Here are the other pages that stood out for me

Starting on page 61 they use vintage book paper for backgrounds and props - great ideas for decorating and in our own artwork.  The Valentino Hobo and boots aren't bad either! But look at the color - gray. Some colors may come across as drab but when presented in the softest suede a color like gray can be inviting.

Jewel tone colors are, or going to be hot! This definitely reminds me of 80s royal blue but this is definitely not your 80s prom dress. The blue horse in the background is a little 80s, if only it was a unicorn.

This magenta color is AMAZING by Magaschoni (left) and the dress is adorable... if you don't think that Mad Men isn't having a huge influence on fashion right now, think again. Also look at the color combination: magenta with brown/ochre background. Might be the next card I make.

Loved the flow of this product shot, the circles with the squares. Will be putting this clip on my inspiration board.

Here is an idea of putting pictures into old books - definitely not acid free but maybe just use the old covers and insert your own pages??

I hope I have given you a better reason to look at all the catalogs that will soon be coming to your doorstep! Don't get down because you can't shop - use them to be inspired!

Happy Friday - enjoy life!

Cleanse/Detox Day Four

Today I am feeling much better - little more energy, but really craving sugar! I don't think I can go into a grocery store right now for fear that I would go directly to the bakery section and eat all the samples! Just so you know while I am on this cleanse I cannot take my regular supplements that my body is used to. So I am attributing that to my energy loss along with a huge decrease in calories...hmmmm I wonder who has been eating too much??? How is everyone else doing?

On tap for today:

Morning
  • Spark drink(this is helping a ton for my energy levels!)
  • Catalyst supplements
  • Probiotic Restore supplements (from the Advocare Herbal Cleanse)
  • Meal Replacement shake (Advocare)
Afternoon
  • Salad (with Tuna on it)
  • Apple (large Fuji, this is kind of helping with my sugar craving)
Snack
  • Muscle Gain Protein Shake
  • Fiber Bar - this little bar is great with the protein shake, it has 5g fiber and 8g of protein and is equivalent to 2 servings of fruits! This is really my first time really trying it out and I am happy with the taste and that it fills my need around snack time (with the shake) while giving me some more fiber.
  • This little snack at around 3 pm is really helping my overeating. Also I LOVE the portability of this snack- you have your shaker, grab a bar and you are ready to go! The protein shake has 25g of protein and very low in carbs. Here is the product sheet for the shake: Download P4602
Dinner
  • Chicken breast - grilled (I really don't like chicken so we will have to see how this goes)
  • Salad
  • Right before bed - Herbal Cleanse pack

Birthday Girl | Four!

This little one is not so little anymore! We celebrated her birthday last week and she likes to remind you that she is not three anymore

She is FOUR

I played around with some Seventies action from PW. I thought it was fitting with the headband and all the baubles she chose to wear.

Cleanse/Detox Day Three

How is everyone doing? Can you believe we are already on day three? It's seems pretty quiet out there... I am feeling okay - not a lot of energy but feeling better. Staying away from the sugar has proven to be VERY hard this time around. I don't want to leave the house, for fear that I am going to pull into a mini mart and get a king size Snickers! Luckily the only time I need to leave my house is at 4 am to take Kirk to the airport. Hopefully nothing is open at 4 am...On tap for today:

Early this morning
  • Spark drink
  • Catalyst supplements
  • Fiber drink
  • Meal Replacement shake
  • Herbal tea
Lunch
  • Left over soup (Broccoli)
Snack
  • Muscle Gain Shake
  • Catalyst supplements
Dinner
  • pork chop left overs, sliced up in a whole grain flat bread and veggies
  • Herbal Cleanse pill pack - before bedtime

Cleanse/Detox Day two

First thing this morning was a little tough - I am feeling groggy. Hopefully it's due to getting used to less calories and not the flu!

Today looks like this:

Morning
  • Spark and Catalyst supplements (go here to learn more)
  • Fiber drink (from the Advocare Herbal cleanse)
  • Meal Replacement Shake (it's a little cold to have a smoothie)
  • Herbal Tea
  • Apple
Lunch
  • Salad - I am going to bring home a Wendy's Chinese Chicken Salad. Use my own balsamic dressing and forgo the string crackers.
Mid afternoon
  • Muscle Gain Protein shake
  • Catalyst supplements
  • Raw nuts pack - these are from Trader Joes
Dinner
  • Pork Chop - plain, done on the grill
  • Brocolli
  • Herbal Cleanse pill pack (right before bed)
This is going to get easier for me because someone is leaving to go bird hunting for a week in South Dakota. I won't have to watch him eat a nice juicy burger or ice cream in front of me!

Cleanse/Detox Day One

Are we all ready??!! Remember the goal is to make this as easy as possible for ourselves by continuing to eat (getting enough nutrients) as long as we are cutting out the foods/beverages that interfere with the cleanse.
  • ALWAYS check with your doctor before starting any program like this
  • Drink LOTS of water
  • This is not going to be easy or FUN... sorry!
Here are some other basic principles taken from Gweneth Paltrow's Detox:
  • Do deep breathing or gentle yoga
  • Take a couple of spoonfuls of extra virgin olive oil at night to help stimulate your liver to eliminate bile and keep it's circulation flowing
  • If your bowel movements get sluggish, you can accelerate things by drinking half a cup of castor oil or using a mild herbal laxative. (I prefer the later) Bowel elimination is paramount for correct detoxification
  • The skin gets rid of many toxins so it is important to sweat, either by exercising or taking a sauna.
  • Finally, make sure (or at least try) to eat whole organic foods, which have the best chance of having all the nutrients needed for liver and general detoxification.
I am going to be doing a combination of both the Gweneth Paltrow Detox (GPD) and the Advocare Herbal Cleanse (AHC). I will be using some of the recipes and timeline from the GPD.
So let's get started and on our way to welcoming the holidays feeling top-notch!
DAY ONE - today
Upon rising (empty stomach)
  • Spark (if you don't do Spark do the glass of room temperature lemon water)
  • Catalyst supplements
30 minutes later
  • Fiber drink (from AHC)
  • Meal Replacement shake (or smoothie recipe)
  • Herbal tea
Lunch
  • Salad
Mid afternoon snack
  • Muscle Gain shake (or an all protein shake or something that is high in protein)
  • Catalyst supplements
Dinner
  • Broccoli & Arugula soup
  • Right before bed - Herbal Cleanse pack (AHC)
Let me know how it's going and if you have any questions!

ADDITIONAL INFO:

Remember the dietary guidlines -
  • Drink at least 8 glasses water a day - I know many of you can do 12
  • East eight to ten servings each day of vegetables and fruits. A serving is one cup of raw veggies or on-half cup of cooked veggies, or a meduim sized piece of fruit
  • Whole grains only - avoid processed starches such as white bread and white rice
  • Reduce your dietary fat intake to as low an amount as possible. The means reducing or eliminating the use of butter, margarine and high-fat salad dressings.
  • Avoid all fried foods
  • Be sure to avoid sugar - if you want to eat something sweet, reach for a piece of fresh fruit.
Those of you that do not have a particular cleanse/detox plan in place just follow along with us by sticking to those above guidelines!

Baking | Spice Muffins

With the weather changing to cool fall temps in the NW it makes me want to bake and get out the crock pot. This weekend I tried out a friend's recipe for Spice Muffins - delicious and simple!

This is actually my favorite time of year - mostly because of the color changes and the crisp days. But I am a little behind in getting ready for cooler weather. The outdoor cushions still need to be washed off and brought in and I need to start packing up my summer clothes and bring out my winter clothes.

What do you do to welcome the fall season in? To get you started here is the recipe for Spice Muffins:
  • 1 box of cake mix ( I use the yellow mix)
  • 2 tbl of flour
  • 1 tsp of baking powder
  • 3 eggs
  • 2/3 cup of milk
  • 1/3 vegetable oil
Mix all the ingredients together. Spoon into muffin cups sprinkle cinnamon/sugar mixture on top. I use the cinnamon spice blend from Pampered Chef. Bake at 375 degrees for 20 minutes or until tops are lightly browned. I sprinkle more of the cinnamon/sugar mixture on top before they totally cool.

Thank you Michelle for the recipe! Enjoy -
